New PICO Exercises Released: What Can We Learn?

📢Exciting news from the Coordination Group: Second wave of PICO exercises published! What lessons can be learned?
It was widely known that there would be further PICO Exercise, even though it was not included in the rolling plan. The PICO Exercises were published in Summer of 2023, still under EUnetHTA 21. At the time of the first published exercises, several issues have been observed and raised:
🔹High number of PICOs (5 – 9)
🔹No pressure test (limited member state involvement, no expert involvement, exercise after EMA approval and not in parallel)
🔹Lack of documentation
According to the Coordination Group not much can be learned from this second wave. They state two key limitations:
-
➡️The PICO exercises do not fully reflect the endorsed version of the relevant guidance
➡️The PICO exercises are published (only) for transparency purposes
Given the importance of PICOs for EU HTA, we see a lot that can be learned. Follow our thoughts in this new series Reflections On Second Wave Of PICO Exercises to Get Read For EU HTA.
